Baby Blues: The Challenges of Postpartum Depression
Saturday, May 5, 2012
Being pregnant can be one of the most happiest moments in life that a woman could ever have. It is a time for new beginnings, a time of change, a season of growth for her and the entire family. Pregnancy and the sweet anticipation of having a baby can really help improve the family's relationship. The wait for the arrival of the new baby puts the entire family in a good mood of expectation. In the process, the family members feel closer to one another.
During this trying stage of a woman, she constantly feels and experiences different thoughts and feelings about her pregnancy and her baby. Sometimes, she can feel good and bright about life. On some days, she can be so depressed and irritable. This sudden shift of feelings can be considered normal for other women, but it can be disturbing not only on the part of the new mothe but also to the rest of the family if these episodes of sadness go on for long periods of time.
After giving birth, a woman can experience a thousand thoughts about the baby, whether good or bad. This is what others call the “baby blues” --- a point in a woman's life, usually right after childbirth, when she feels heightened emotions concerning their baby. This state can be felt by the woman three to five days after delivery and can last for up to two more weeks, or perhaps even longer. At this point, the woman experiencing “baby blues” may cry more easily than usual, may have trouble falling asleep or can feel irritable, or she can be so sad and always “on the edge” emotionally. Since “baby blues” are experienced is very common and is almost always expected of every first-time mother, it is generally not considered to be an illness. In most cases, the depression does not interfere with the woman's ability to care for her baby.
However, some women may experience these heightened state of emotions by having postpartum depression, a type of depression that also occurs after childbirth. Also called postpartum non-psychotic depression, this condition affects about ten to twenty percent of women, mostly within a few months of delivery. If a woman is experiencing postpartum depression, she may exhibit any of the following symptoms:
l depressed mood
l easily provoked to tears
l have trouble falling asleep
l poor appetite
l failure to enjoy pleasurable activities
l feelings of inadequacy as a parent
l impaired concentration
l suicidal thoughts.
These symptoms can be seen in a woman if she acts differently towards herself and her baby as well. Having this type of depression includes risk factors such as previous major depression, psychosocial stress, previous premenstrual dysphoric disorder, and inadequate social support.
If a woman has postpartum depression, they may worry a lot when it comes to their baby, particularly regarding the baby's health and well-being. On very rare cases, women with this form of severe depression may harbor negative and harmful thoughts about their baby. This type of depression can interfere with the woman's ability to take care of the baby, and it can even come to a point where suicidal thoughts occur.
A big part of preventive care for postpartum depression entails becoming fully informed about the risk factors and effects of pregnancy and childbirth. Regular consultation with the obstetrician-gynecologist would also allow the new mother to get information about the numerous physical, chemical or hormonal changes that will come as a result of pregnancy and childbirth.
Doctors will always play a key role in identifying and treating this type of depression. Women should be screened by their physician to determine if they are at risk for acquiring postpartum depression, since this can give them a chance to prepare themselves for their childbirth at the physical, emotional, and mental levels.

Baby Birth Announcements—Announcing a New Addition
Getting ready for a new addition to the family is a very busy time. New or experienced parents would like nothing more for everything to go smoothly. However, there is a long list of tasks to complete before baby arrives. If parents want to share their excitement with friends and family, a baby birth announcement is one of the most important tasks to complete.
It may be difficult to decide the style of baby birth announcement to send out. One great idea is to choose a style that coordinates with your nursery. Lots of work has already gone into making the nursery ready for baby. Choose a similar style for the baby birth announcement and save time deciding on a theme.
Another great idea for the birth announcement is to include a photo-that is if the parents have time. It can be difficult to get a great picture and can take some time. It is important to be patient when taking pictures but eventually a shot worthy of the baby birth announcement will be taken. A photo taken with parents and new baby are a great way to share with everyone the new family entity. If it is too difficult or too time consuming to take a picture right after baby birth, send the announcement first and then send pictures at a later date.
There is a standard for what type of information should be included in the baby
birth announcement. First the parents names and then the new baby’s name should be included. Information about the baby that should be put in the announcement includes birthday, birth weight and height. This should all the information friends and family need to learn about the new baby.
It is important to remember that birth announcements are not a request for gifts. Gifts are something that should be taken care of with the baby shower before baby’s birth. However, some friends and family will send gifts, and may even send them before the announcements are sent. When ordering baby birth announcements, it is a good idea to order thank you notes that coordinate with the theme. This way the parents will be ready to send thank you notes when gifts arrive.
A new baby is such a happy and busy time. Choosing the right baby birth announcement is the perfect way to share the happiness with friends and family. For a wonderful selection of baby birth announcements and baby shower invitations, as well as thank you notes, visit Dependable Printing.
Baby Bedding Shopping By a New Father To Be
Friday, May 4, 2012
Up until a couple weeks ago, I had never thought about baby bedding, cribs and crib safety, baby feeding supplies or any of the other countless items it takes to prepare for the arrival of our future NFL super star. I was clueless as to the magnitude of the preparations involved in having a baby, and no I have not been in a coma the last 26 years, I’ve heard expecting couples and new parents talking about newborns and going on and on about crib safety and thread counts of baby bedding spewing out so many facts and stats on the subject that it reminded me of one of those sports fanatics that every neighborhood bar has, who sits there all evening stating one stat after another while you think to yourself “this guy needs a life”.
But here’s the shocker: I caught myself yesterday engaging in one of these conversations with two other couples in an almost heated debate over whether California Kids or Kid’s Line Bedding has a higher thread count. This is amazing enough, but even more remarkable is the fact that I had never met either couple before that surreal moment in aisle 11 at Toys ‘R’ Us where I stated material preferences and quoted safety alerts from the CPSC’s website on baby bedding.
And yet it’s only the beginning, I now realize I am only two steps from becoming one of those diaper bag carrying, mini-van driving parents whose lazy Sunday afternoons spent reading the Times or napping at will are but a distant memory while they shuffle through their endless “to do” list at one of many after school events.
Scary? Heck yea! But on the other hand, I can hardly wait!
Now let’s discuss something very important, Baby Bedding. Unlike bedding for adults, there are a lot of considerations in buying baby bedding like comfort and safety. The Consumer Product Safety Commission lists safety tips on baby bedding on their website at www.cpsc.gov and should be followed.
Baby Bedding Online
Baby bedding is one of those things that many people are always on the look out for. The newest styles in baby bedding make it so people from all tastes and prices can make the best choice when it comes to the bedding that their baby will sleep in. There are so many popular styles nowadays that most people find that it is a hard decision to make. The new styles are of course dictated by the current trends that are sweeping the world, such as cartoons and television programs but that is only part of the equation.
The other side would be the price ranges that affect the way most people in the world are buying right now because of a poor economy. If you look in the baby bedding section of most stores you will see that the prices vary widely and that means that you will have to determine if the quality of the lesser priced units is up to par with what you need to provide the child with. This may be a difficult task to say the least. The higher priced baby bedding sets are most often those that endorse a person, show or product in some way. This is all too common and we all find ourselves paying top dollar based on the popularity of the endorsement rather than the product quality itself.
The newest rage in baby bedding purchases is the internet. All over the web you will find that places are cashing in on the baby items deal. This is because the baby industry is one of the biggest in the world. People all over the globe go out and spend mega-bucks on the child that they have brought into this world. This is nothing out of the norm for sure. Nearly all parents, especially new ones, try their best to find only the best for their child and baby bedding is no exception in the slightest.
Take a look at all the baby bedding choices that are currently available and you will see that you certainly have your work cut out for you when it comes to making a selection. In the end it is all about the personal choices that we make and the ones that are best for the child, which is all that matters. Be sure to check all labels for any possible allergy issues that you child may have or contract. And check out also the quality of the workmanship! Too often a nice looking baby quilt is so poorly done that it falls apart at the first washing.
Some very original baby bedding can be found at http://www.art-ickles.com, which sells unique handicrafts brightly colored with tropical themes. The baby bedding quilts, bumper pads, pillow covers shown in this website are of top quality, 100% hand made with the best American fabrics. There is also a very nice section with all kind of fun decoration for your nursery.

Baby Bedding Buying Made Simple
Thursday, May 3, 2012
There is a near endless array of baby bedding on the market that includes sets that are gender specific and others that can be used for either a boy or a girl. You can buy each piece separately but if you really think about it, it is the most expensive way to go. Just as there are ‘bed-in-a-bag’ sets for adults they have them for your nursery as well.
A bed in a bag set includes sheet, pillow cases, a comforter, shams, and skirts for adult beds. Bed sets for the baby is the same way. If you are looking to have your bedding co-ordinate the theme of your nursery then purchase sets. You can purchase single sheets so that you can mix and match your bedding.
When you are shopping for be aware that the bedding will be separated by fabric, colors, and styles. Your preferences will no doubt influence your purchase. Do you want cotton, flannel, fleece, or silk? Many parents prefer the cotton or flannel fabric because they are less expensive than silk sheets and are easier to clean.
The advantages to buying your bedding in sets is that everything already matches. You won’t be mixing fabrics, colors, or themes. With everything in one bag you can actually change the atmosphere of the room buy the bedding sets you purchase.
It is important that you match your bedding with the gender of your child. You wouldn’t want to, for example, saturate your son’s room in pink. In a girl’s room however, it is ok to put blue. Most manufacturers are knowledgeable about current thinking regarding gender and what is believed to be acceptable or not. They tend to know what customers want. You most likely won’t have any trouble finding what you want.
Generally accepted themes for boys rooms include airplanes, trucks, or fire engines. Sports is another theme to look for boys. They are generally designed in bright colors - reds, blues, greens, and oranges.
Themes for girls could include ballerinas, faeries, Barbie, princess, butterflies, or flowers. Girl’s bedding generally comes in softer colors such as pink, yellow, mauve, blue, and teal among others. Girl’s rooms themes are not limited to the above mentioned themes.
Non-gender specific themes for bedding include animals, the solar system, favorite characters such as Barney, the Smurfs, Jimmy Neutron, Sponge Bob Square Pants, and others.
You also have the option of having your crib bedding custom made. There is a chance that you might not find just the right pattern you are looking for. If this is the case you can have someone make you bedding with your exact pattern. If you sew you can create your own bedding sets for your baby. There are even materials in gold and silver to use for your child’s bedding so they can sleep in the lap of luxury.
Crib bedding doesn’t refer to sheets only. You can get bed in a bag as mentioned earlier. You will find a sheet, a baby blanket, and a baby quilt in most sets. If you prefer to buy separate pieces you can still do that. Most stores have single pieces as well as bedding sets.
As you can see buying bedding for you baby can be a challenging task.
Keep your budget in mind as well as your preferences. You can create a theme in your baby’s room with the types of bedding you use. You can use character bedding but know that kids often outgrow certain characters and as your child grows you will likely have to change your themes.

Baby Baptism: Is It Really Necessary?
Baby baptism is probably one of the most widely misunderstood rituals in the Christian (and many other) faiths. Almost all Christian churches practice Baptism in some form or another. Baptism comes from a Greek word baptizo which loosely translated means to dip, a washing or immersion. However baptism for babies is not a practice that was performed by the churches in the first century.
According to various chapters in the New Testament as you come into faith with Christ then the next few steps would be confession and then baptism. The process of baptism symbolizes the dying, burial and rising of Christ. Through baptism the symbolism of these acts are reenacted.
Baptism is done for the forgiveness of sins (Acts 2:38), it washes away our sins (Acts 22:16). We are baptized so that will God will resurrect us from death (Colossians 2:12, Romans 6:3-6).
So when should someone be baptized?
In order to answer this question properly we will need to refer to the scriptures. The Bible clearly tells us that children are considered to be pure in the eyes of the Lord. The scriptures teach us that in order to enter God's kingdom we need to become more like children and open our hearts (Matthew 18:3, Mark 10:15).
The baby baptism advocates interpret passages such as Psalm 51:5 as saying that we are born sinners. However with proper interpretation would say that we are just born into a sinful world. A close look at a couple of passages tells us that children do not have sin as a result being born and that sin is a result of lust and therefore turns into sin. See Ezekiel 18: 20; James 1:14-15. As children grow older they are filled with secular knowledge and through this process their hearts become hardened. This is when the blood of Christ is needed.
Being able to recite the word of God is very different to comprehending it properly. Whilst young children might mean well when they ask if they are ready to be baptized they do not know any better. The choice to become a Christian is one of the gravest and most serious decisions you can make; is your child really ready for that kind of commitment?
So who are the real candidates for baptism?
Anybody who is prepared to hear the word of God confess their sins, and ready to live a life committed to Christ can be baptized. Another place to learn who can be baptized is searching through the book of Acts. It is known as “the book of conversions.” The reason why is it shows how several people were told how to be saved and become a member of the church.
Children should be introduced to the word of God at the earliest possible stage in their lives. Parents will need to take care to strike a balance between guiding their child and supporting the child's spiritual development. Any commitment they make to Christ is their own and should be something which they would have independently chosen for themselves.
It's common for parents to push their children to agree with their religious beliefs. However well-intentioned it is sad because in the end this undermines the child's spiritual development. To baptize someone who is not ready is to do them a grave disservice.
By waiting until they are ready to really understand the commitment they are agreeing to; the ritual becomes more meaningful for everyone involved, thus also approved of by God.
Baby Advice – Separating Truth From Fiction
New mothers get a ton of advice. Total strangers will walk up to you and give you their opinions on how to get rid of that cradle cap. Your mother-in-law will look at you with disapproving eyes and tell you that she had your husband sleeping through the night when he was two weeks old. Your next door neighbor will have an amusing anecdote about how a teaspoon of Jack Daniels absolutely cured her kids’ teething issues.
Don’t despair. It won’t last forever. And, there are days, I’m sure, when you would welcome some good advice. But how do you sort out the good advice from the, well, crap? It’s not easy, let me tell you. But, here are a couple of good places to go when you’re in need of help.
First of all, before you take advice from someone, consider what kind of mother you think they are, or were. If your girlfriend is the best mom you know, and she has considerably more experience than you, then her advice is probably going to be helpful. But, if your neighbor’s kids grew up to be alcoholics, her advice about the Jack Daniels on the gums might be circumspect. You see where I’m going with this. The advice is only good advice for you if you really feel comfortable using the technique on your baby. Every baby is different, and so is every Mom, so the advice is not one size fits all.
In addition to a Mom whom you trust, your pediatrician is a good person to ask for advice. When I was a first time Mom, I called my pediatrician’s office three times a week for some sort of help, and they never once acted like I was a pain in the neck, even though I’m quite certain that I must have been. They can help you with all sorts of questions, and they can help reassure you that everything is ok, which, sometimes is all you need.
Another good source of advice is baby care books and websites. Many of the most common questions are answered in these formats, and they are available whenever you need them.
Finally, trust your instincts. Even if you’re a first time Mom, you probably know what‘s best for your baby, because you know your baby best. A little advice never hurt anybody, but a little faith in yourself works wonders, too.
Babylon 5 (DVD) Review
Wednesday, May 2, 2012
Nominated for 6 Emmys and 3 Hugo Awards in its five-season run, Babylon 5 changed the landscape of the TV science fiction series genre. Following on the heels of hit series such as Star Trek and Star Trek: The Next Generation, Babylon 5 is unrivaled by any of its peers in its application of special effects. The brainchild of J. Michael Straczynski (writer for such shows as Murder She Wrote and Walker, Texas Ranger), the hour-long sci-fi drama series breaks new ground by deploying a five-season storyline that follows the outline of a traditional novel. As such, Babylon 5 is more like a mini-series that lasts five years instead of the usual three to five nights. And also unlike its predecessors, the series showcases original advanced technologies, believable alien characters (who speak alien and not English), and boasts of superb costume and makeup. Premiering in mid-season 1994, Babylon 5 established a solid audience and continues to inspire new generations of fans via syndicated reruns on cable…
Babylon 5 follows the daily events that transpire on Babylon 5, a five-mile long space station from the year 2258. Built by the Earth Alliance, Babylon 5 orbits a lone planet in interplanetary (neutral) space. The setting for an Earthling military post and a transportation hub for businessmen and general travelers, the space station's primary purpose is to provide a safe haven for the airing of differences between the alien races. Similar in function to the United Nations, Babylon 5 is tasked with preserving the peace between the five primary space-traveling civilizations - the Earth Alliance, the Mimbari Federation, the Centauri Republic, the Narn Regime, and the Vorlon Empire. Headed by Commander Jeffrey Sinclair (Michael O'Hare), and later by Capt. John J. Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner), Babylon 5 is home to almost 300,000 humans and their alien counterparts. With so many confined to such a small area, the space station is ripe for internal struggle, racial conflict, regular cast members' personal problems, and showdowns between various political interests. It's this intricate and diverse storyboard, coupled with amazing visual effects, that makes Babylon 5 one of the most successful sci-fi TV shows in recent memory…
The Babylon 5 DVD (Season 1) features a number of exciting episodes including the series premiere "Midnight on the Firing Line" in which the crew of Babylon 5 awake to find that the Narn have launched an attack on a Centauri colony. The event drives a wedge between Londo and G'Kar. Meanwhile, a number of attacks on ships around Babylon 5 by space pirates has become a rampant problem… Other notable episodes from Season 1 include "The War Prayer" in which Babylon 5 is plagued by a racist group of humans who attack and brand alien residents, and "Babylon Squared" in which Babylon 4 reappears in the same coordinates in which it disappeared several years earlier, prompting the crew of Babylon 5 to arrange an evacuation of its predecessor while they try to discover the cause…

Baby- Boomers Love The Technology, Hate The Process!
Most baby boomers love new technology and they know the benefits of investing in high-tech products. Cell phones, PDAs, mp3 players, and other new gadgets enable us to keep in touch, share images and information, entertain ourselves, and learn. Yet while most baby boomers feel that the benefits high-tech products bring make them worth having, many also feel that keeping up with technological advances is challenging and frustrating. Indeed, few would disagree that these days, picking the best high-tech product for you is no easy task. After all, no matter what type of gadget you’re looking to buy, there are literally hundreds of models to choose from. And with new models featuring different innovations and extras appearing on the market every few months, it’s nearly impossible to even keep up, let alone find that perfect product. So what are baby boomers to do?
Baby boomers fall into two categories –those who are keen about new technology and enjoy learning about new advances, and those who like the benefits high-tech products can offer but hate having to constantly try to keep up-to-date. For the first group, technological changes and advances are exciting, and keeping up with new trends is a fun pastime. Yet for the latter group, which represents the majority of baby boomers today, staying on top of trends and the newest gadgetry is a frustrating, time-consuming, yet necessary chore. After all, baby boomers didn’t grow up playing Xbox every day after school in third grade. They didn’t go through high school with a cell phone in their back pocket. They simply didn’t have tons of high-tech gadgets during their adolescence, when they were forming their interests and hobbies. So now, when the world demands that everyone has an electronically organized schedule and that everyone be readily accessible via cell phone or PDA, many baby boomers are unprepared. They are forced to learn quickly or be left out.
So, what do baby boomers do to find the electronics products they need? They turn to their friends for answers, go to the big brick-and-mortar retailers, and they use the Internet to research their products. Unfortunately, there are drawbacks to each of these solutions. A friend’s advice can be helpful, yet everyone has their own personal preferences when it comes to electronic gadgets. A friend’s choice isn’t necessarily going the best choice for you. At the big brick-and-mortar retailers, finding unbiased answers can be next to impossible. Each store has its own agenda, and the salespeople are trained to push their store’s own brands. Additionally, unless you are prepared to drive around and check every retailer in your area, you can never be sure whether you are getting a good deal. Thus, many people have become disillusioned with big chain stores and are turning to the Internet for a more efficient, satisfying shopping experience. However, many online shopping sites are overwhelming and confusing for the average baby boomer.
Sites like www.techselector.com are specifically aimed at solving this dilemma. Techselector.com is a simple, user-friendly site which makes finding the right gadget easy. The site features a product selection system called the TechSelector, which guides you through the selection process by asking a series of simple multiple choice questions designed to help you focus your search and get you thinking about the important features of each product. There are explanations, pictures, and diagrams to help you understand each question before giving an answer. Once you’ve completed the questionnaire, the Techselector uses your answers to compile a personalized Product Report, which lists the best products for you. On the Report, you can see how each product measures up to your criteria, read product reviews, and view detailed specifications sheets. You can also see the prices offered for each product by different retailers, making it easy to compare prices and find the best deal. Finally, you have the option to buy that perfect product with the click of a button. And since the Internet is safer than ever, buying online is a fast, easy, and secure method of shopping.
Baby boomers want to keep up with technological advances and enjoy great new gadgets, but most don’t want to spend hours researching products and waste time at big retailers. For this savvy and intelligent segment of the population, online shopping has become the best way to find great products, yet most online shopping sites are difficult to navigate and can overwhelm the visitor. Techselector.com, however, offers a new and exciting way to help consumers stay on top of trends and find products which meet their needs. At techselector.com, emphasis is placed on helping consumers both to understand the product type they’re interested in and to find that perfect product. Thus, visitors to the site not only find great gadgets, but they also learn about technology.
Babies Minor Maladies
Tuesday, May 1, 2012
Babies can have a ton of little issues, and we worry ourselves silly over them, though most are no real threat to baby’s health. Here are a list of the most common little ailments, how to treat them at home, and when to call the doctor.
· Diaper Rash – Diaper rash is caused by baby’s bottom being constantly exposed to wetness. For most babies, changing their diaper a little more often and applying an over the counter cream are enough to solve the problem. If all your measures don’t work, or if the rash looks different than a typical diaper rash, call the doctor.
· Cradle Cap – Cradle cap is the presence of scales on the baby’s scalp, and usually occurs in very young infants. It is actually a form of dermatitis, and usually is not bothersome to the child. For most babies, a massage using petroleum jelly followed by a shampoo will take care of the problem. Try this at every bath until the problem stops recurring. Cradle cap is worsened by sweating, so keep your baby’s head cool, avoiding the use of hats. If these measures don’t work, your doctor can prescribe an ointment or shampoo. Babies typically outgrow cradle cap within the first six months of life.
· Mystery Fever – Nearly all babies have this at one time or another. A low grade fever, with no other accompanying symptoms. If your baby is under two months of age, you should seek medical attention with any fever. Otherwise, as long as the fever doesn’t go above 102°F, you need not treat it unless it is making your baby uncomfortable or unable to sleep. Fever is the body’s way of fighting infection, so don’t rush to treat a fever, if your baby is otherwise healthy. Keep her cool, give her plenty of fluids, watch and wait. Talk to your doctor about his guidelines regarding when to call him concerning a fever. Regardless, any fever which reaches 105° rectally, or a fever accompanied by signs of dehydration (infrequent urination, sunken fontanel, dry lips), or a feverish baby who has a stiff neck, is limp or has purple spots on the skin, should be treated immediately.
These are three of the most common minor baby ailments. Though it’s comforting to know how to treat these at home, never hesitate to call your doctor if you think it’s necessary. A Mother’s intuition is a powerful thing. If you think something’s amiss, it probably is, so check it out, even if it’s only to satisfy your own mind.
That’s the end of this ebook. If you would like more information, you really need to download my main ebook “Mommy to Mommy – The Truth About Taking Care of Baby” from http://www.educatedmother.com. This is a much longer ebook, where I am able to go into a lot more information.
Babies And Bedtime Fussiness
If the baby is very small, is a new born baby then it is accepted that he will get up many times at night. But in case of older babies, it is not accepted. It is very frustrating for the mother if the baby goes to sleep after a great deal of effort and then keeps waking up frequently. It is a big achievement for the mother if the baby sleeps uninterrupted throughout the night. However, if the baby is not sleeping well then you must start thinking about his day time activities and how these are affecting his sleeping pattern.
The baby’s biological clock is not yet set up and if you don’t set a routine for them they find it difficult to settle down. Thus you must follow a fixed pattern. They automatically begin to understand when they are supposed to play and when to sleep and so on. When they are small we help them by setting a routine and we follow the routine as far as possible. For instance, in the mornings they can learn that it is bath, then feed, and then play. At evening they can learn that a story, feed and then lullaby is bedtime routine. Thus, if you follow this pattern for a while then the kids start remembering it.
You must also keep track of the times your baby has slept during the day. The baby may not go to bed at night because he may not be tired enough. You must play sufficiently with the baby to make him tired by the end of the day. You must also help him in discovering new things and stimulate him during the day. If you are not doing so, then you may have to change your own habits. The baby will then sleep soundly at night.
It varies with the age of the baby, but in any case he must not take long naps during the day. A baby who is of few months of age should at the most sleep for half an hour. The new born must sleep for a longer period of time. You should not allow the baby to sleep as much as he wants during the day. If you do so you are sure to have problems at night.
It is good for the baby if you can take him somewhere during the day. You may take the little one to your friend’s house, or to a park or even to the shopping mall. The baby loves the change and is stimulated too. It is something great for them when they see new things and the effort is tiring for them. Thus, they sleep well at night. With the passage of time their bed time fussiness will go away and you will not have to bother about it anymore. That is the best part of it all.

A Shadow Over Your Pregnancy: How Preexisting Health Conditions can Affect You and Your Baby
One of the most important things for a woman to ensure while she is pregnant is that she remains healthy throughout the the nine-month period. This is because anything that affects the mother will affect the baby in her womb. With that into consideration, women should be aware that any preexisting condition they might have and/or the medications that they are taking can have a profound effect on their pregnancy and their baby. In some cases, this may increase the risk of babies being born with birth weight problems (either overweight or underweight), developmental problems, preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, pre-eclampsia, congenital heart block, or deformities. It may even be the cause of death for both mother and child.
Among the preexisting medical conditions that pose a significant health risk for women during pregnancy are anemia, asthma, arthritis, sexually transmitted diseases, heart conditions, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), thyroid disorders, kidney diseases, liver diseases, infections, diabetes, hypertension, eating disorders, epilepsy, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), substance abuse, depression, and other mental illnesses. While these conditions can pose complications during pregnancy, it is possible to manage them with medical assistance.
It is highly recommended that women visit their obstetricians monthly during a normal pregnancy, but for women with preexisting conditions this may occur with more frequency so that their healthcare providers can monitor the progress of the pregnancy, how the woman is managing her preexisting condition and how it is affecting the unborn child.
For women with preexisting conditions who are planning to become pregnant, it is important to consult with a doctor before conception happens. A doctor will be able to explain the risks the condition poses to the pregnancy and help a woman weigh the pros and cons of carrying a child. This is called preconception planning, and when followed by early and on-going prenatal care, it is very helpful in ensuring a safe and healthy pregnancy.
Preconception planning can map out a possible plan for every step during the pregnancy, including counseling for the couple who wishes to have the child, the possibility of changing the medications currently being used to manage the preexisting condition, and of any changes in diet for the mother-to-be. In some cases, such as if a woman has an eating disorder or a predilection for substance abuse, the doctor may suggest going through therapy to eliminate these conditions before becoming pregnant. Both diet and medication have been proven to have an impact on the health of the child, since the baby is effectively sharing whatever the mother ingests.
Chronic conditions don't have to threaten a woman's life or the life of her unborn child. Apart from seeking medical advice about her preexisting conditions, it is also important to have the support of her family and friends around her. There are also groups composed of women in a similar situation that remind the the woman that she is not the only person going through this challenge. There are many women out there have triumphed over their illnesses to carry a child to term. Practicing preconception planning is just one of the steps in giving birth to healthy babies.

A New Baby Can Be Expensive!
Monday, April 30, 2012
"A new baby brings a lot of joy and hope to a family. It also brings some uncertainty. You may be concerned that your home is too small, or that you need a larger car, among others. Whether you are expecting your first or your fifth child, chances are that you need baby gear! There are hundreds of different items that you need when the baby arrives, and it is important to remember that stocking up doesn’t mean you have to clean out the bank account. If you do a little bit of research beforehand, you can get everything that you need at a fraction of the retail price. My favorite money saving tool is the e-coupon. You can sign up for e-coupons at a variety of different retailers, and start savings instantly.
The first question that a new parent-to-be asks is “what gear do I need?” There are many things that are convenient to have, and many things that are a “must have.” Once you distinguish between the two, you can start stocking up on the “must haves”. I recommend that you start shopping for bargains early on in your pregnancy. You will save more money, and eliminate the last minute rush that many parents undergo. Most baby sites will provide you with a checklist of the baby “must haves.” Print this list out, and then begin to compare prices and makes and models.
Every parent-to-be is on a budget. The trick is to make the most out of that budget. First consider looking at local yard sales for various baby gear. You can often get some cheap deals, on things that are in good shape. If you are looking for some really good deals, go online. There are hundreds of different baby sites, which offer many products at deep discounts. If you use an e-coupon service, you can get coupon codes to save even more on the items that are “must haves.” Most of these services are free to use, and can save you hundreds on your favorite baby gear. You may also try an auction site like EBay. I have found some great deals on items that you need everyday, like bottles and bibs.
Shopping for baby on a budget can be a lot of fun, if you approach it correctly. Create a list of the items that you want to shop for, and stick to it. Look for discounts and deals both locally and online. In no time, you will have a nursery full of baby gear ready and waiting for your new little bundle of joy! Congratulations and happy shopping!"
A Little Advice For New Parents
As a new parent you face many problems and issues that you need to understand and deal with immediately. Newborns do not come with an instruction book so here is some information on some things that you need to know about.
Bathing your baby: Your baby’s umbilical cord will fall off in about one to two weeks after they are born. Until it falls out, you should only give your baby sponge baths. You could dampen a cotton ball or cotton swab with alcohol to help dry the umbilical stump or simply follow your pediatrician’s directions. You can give him a bath in a sink or shallow tub after the stump falls off.
Caesarian delivery: A caesarian is usually performed to make delivery safer for you or your baby. C-sections can be done for many different reasons including stalled labor, complicated labor, problems with the baby that may make delivery difficult, or other problems. It does not matter if you deliver vaginally or by a caesarian section, you are still a mother with a beautiful new blessing.
Circumcision: A lot of doctors feel that there are many benefits to having your baby circumcised, but it may not be absolutely necessary. It may help to reduce the risk of urinary tract infections and eliminates just about any chance of penile cancer. Circumcision will not cause any long-term emotional problems for your child.
Crib death (SIDS): Many studies have been done regarding SIDS. Although the cause of SIDS has not been definitely defined, there are some correlations that have been made between SIDS and the following things:
Female babies are less likely to die from SIDS than Male Babies
The risk is greater with premature birth
Minority children are more likely to be affected by SIDS than non-minority children are.
More children of young, single mothers die of SIDS
Smoking in the home greatly increases the risk of SIDS
Some people think that sleeping with your baby is okay and continue to let their babies sleep with them. The American Academy of Pediatrics disagrees with this and says that there is a greater risk of SIDS in babies who sleep with another person. Babies should sleep alone in a cradle or crib either next to or near an adult. You should never put pillows, blankets, stuffed animals or anything that might put your baby at risk in their bed.
Most pediatricians recommend that babies sleep on their back to decrease the risk of SIDS. The reason for this is widely debated between health experts. If you have concerns please talk to your pediatrician. There are no dumb questions when it comes to the health and safety of your child, so please don’t be afraid to ask for help.

A Guide to Baby Scales
Baby scales are used to measure breast milk and the weight of babies.
When baby arrives early or has medical problems, health care providers turn to the Medela Baby Weigh Scale for measuring breast milk intake. The baby is weighed before and after breastfeeding, and with a touch of a button, the Baby Weight Scale calculates the baby's intake. For small babies, the Baby Weight Scale can measure the difference of one-half teaspoon of breast milk.
Lack of weight gain in an infant should always be taken seriously. Be sure to check that your baby is being weighed properly. Weighing should always be done on the same scale because of the slight differences between scales. It is best to use a baby scale to weigh an infant.. You also should weigh your baby once a week, because of the daily weight variation due to feedings, urination, bowel movements, etc. If the weight remains accurate and you know that your baby is either gaining no weight or losing weight, baby should be seen and evaluated by a doctor immediately.
If baby's weight increases but does not seem adequate, consider if your baby's feeding is appropriate. Are you offering food five or six times a day? Are you feeding breast milk or infant formula to the baby? If you're using breast milk, does your baby seem full after a feeding is complete? If you're using formula, are you mixing it properly? At 6 months old, infants need supplementary calories from solid foods. Are you offering solid foods several times a day? Is your baby keeping all the food down? If everything appears normal, you still might want to get your baby examined, just to be sure that baby's weight is okay. All doctors will use special baby scales to monitor the baby’s weight.
If a baby has a "congenital heart defect", it means the heart or blood vessels near the heart didn't develop normally before birth. Often the term "congenital heart disease" is used to mean the same thing.
Healthy babies usually double their birth weight between four and five months of age. A baby with a congenital heart defect may grow more slowly during infancy and childhood, although the growth often varies according to the type and severity of the condition. An eight-ounce to one-pound gain in a month may be an acceptable weight gain for a baby with a heart defect. You will need to weigh your baby, and the pediatrician can do so for this or any other condition. The baby is usually weighed every month, and the measurements will show how well your baby is growing.

A Guide To Baby Gift Registries
Sunday, April 29, 2012
If you're having a baby and would like to register for baby gifts, all you have to do is go to the Internet to a website that has baby gift registries, sign up and select the gifts that like or need. There are many websites online that host these registries. They are convenient, easy to use and a big help for those families and friends who are looking for the perfect gift to give your new arrival.
Registering online is easy. There is usually a form to fill out asking name, address, phone number, etc. When that is completed, you will be prompted to select from among hundreds of baby items. As you choose, your items will be stored in the registry. When someone logs on to the registry, they select from the items you listed. The item they choose is then listed as purchased.
A baby gift registry is truly a nice way to spread the word about the arrival of one’s bundle of joy. It offers all the items that parents need to care for their baby. Most products offered are quality baby goods and are priced reasonably.
Baby registries make shopping easy and saves time and money. There is no running from store to store, hoping you select the right gift -- one that someone else hasn't already purchased. Purchases online are usually made with a credit card, but one can also usually mail a check. Once payment is processed, the gift is immediately mailed. Most websites are secure, so there is no need to worry about stolen information.
Registries are set up with the idea of knowing what expecting or new parents need and giving family and friends the opportunity to purchase baby gifts the parents would like to receive.
A Guide For A Mother Of A Newly Born Baby
Usually there is very little or no information known to most of the parents at the time of the arrival of their first baby. There are many new questions that come to the mind of the parents of a newly born baby like how to handle their babies first cold, how to make babies sleep, what kind of food is good for them till the age of 6-9 months, how to soothe babies teething pain, signs that tell if the baby is ready for the solid food and why the solid food is not good for them in the initial few months and so on. The list of such questions is endless.
We get a bunch of different advice and opinions on such questions from everyone we talk to and since babies don't come with a "manual" - it's hard to know what the right thing to do is. Thus, it is very important that the parents should educate themselves with the right ways or techniques to take care of their newly born babies.
As an example, we'll talk about a common problem - "Potty Training". There are seven stages of potty training. They begin with showing signs of potty training readiness and conclude with being able to use the toilet away from home.
Signs of Readiness - The first stage of potty training begins when your child shows the following signs of potty training readiness:
- Express the need to go potty (verbally or through body language)
- Expresses an interest in the potty
- Uncomfortable in wet diapers
- Able to dress and undress
- Imitates family members
- Stays dry for two hours
- Has regular bowel movements
- Interested in big kid underwear
Introduction to the Idea of Potty Training - When your child shows a majority of the signs of potty training readiness, it's time to introduce him to the concept of using the potty. This can be done by reading a potty training book as a bedtime story or watching a potty training video or DVD together. Purchase a potty chair and let your child watch you use the potty. Children will often imitate family members.
Sit On the Potty - When your child has been introduced to the concept of potty training, he will probably imitate family member and sit on his potty chair while you use the bathroom. This is a good time to teach good hygiene such as wiping and washing hands after using the potty.
Use the Potty Sometimes - Be sure to give your child plenty of liquids and take him to the potty every 30 minutes. This will help build muscle memory. The first time your child uses the potty, make a big deal of his huge accomplishment. A hug, encouraging words, or a small reward can be good motivational tools and help your child feel proud of his or her accomplishment.
Use the Potty Alone - As your child gets more comfortable with the potty and his ability to control his bodily functions, he will go to the potty by himself. He will then come tell you about it. Again, this is a time for lots of praise and encouragement.
Transition to the Toilet - When your child is comfortable using his potty seat, it's time to transition him to the toilet. Many children are afraid of falling in, so you may need to purchase a toilet seat adapter such as the Flip-N-Flush or the PRIMO's Ducka toilet adapter. These devices reduce the size of the toilet hole, thereby making you child feel more secure.
Use Potty Away From Home - The last stage of potty training occurs when your child is able to use the potty away from home. Thankfully, there are many portable and disposable toilet seats available to keep your child from coming in contact with public toilet seats. Many public bathrooms have auto-flush toilets with electronic sensors. These sensors often fail to detect that a child is seated on the toilet and cause the toilet to flush repeatedly, scaring the child. Devices such as the Flush-Stopper prevent auto-flush toilets from flushing while your child is seated.
Some children breeze through the seven stages of potty training in a matter of weeks, while other children take several months to complete potty training. Your child's progress depends on his or her stage of development, your potty training knowledge, and the potty training products you have available.
A Controversial Solution to Babies Having Babies
The birth control pill, also known as an oral contraceptive or simply referred to as “The Pill,” is hailed as one of the most important innovations in women's health. Before the advent of the Pill, many women were forced to endure multiple pregnancies, having no reliable way of preventing conception. Some women died from giving birth because their bodies were too weak or too exhausted to carry another child to term, or gave birth to malformed children.
After her mother's death from birthing her eleventh sibling, nineteen year old Margaret Sanger became a nurse and advocate for the development of contraceptives for women. She later found an ally in Katherine McCormick, the wealthy widow of an inventor who funded the research for the creation of the birth control pill. Gregory Pincus, an American doctor and researcher had been studying hormonal biology and steroidal hormones, saw the role that hormones played in the conception of rabbits. With the financial backing from McCormick and Sanger, Pincus approached pharmaceutical company Searle to help them develop the birth control pill. Although Searle declined in the beginning, largely because of the austere birth control laws of the day, an accidental discovery by one of his scientists coupled with Pincus's research led the pharmaceutical company into production of the first oral contraceptive for women. In 1960, the United States Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Enovid, the first birth control pill. It was later found that Enovid caused terrible side effects, mostly because the dosage at the time was about ten times higher than was needed.
Today, after continuous research and development, women now have the birth control pill and other contraceptive drugs and devices to choose from to prevent unwanted pregnancies. This is a long way from the stifling laws in place from 1873 to 1965, when the Comstock laws deemed contraception as illegal. As society becomes increasingly permissive and open about sexual matters, the barrier between what is liberal and what is possibly immoral is constantly being challenged and often bewcomes the subject of heated debate.
One such moral debate is currently underway. A decision made by officials from King Middle School in Portland, Maine has sparked a national debate in the United States. The controversy stems from their resolve to offer a full range of contraception, including birth control pills, to students aged from eleven to fifteen belonging to grades six to eight. This extends the range of contraception available to students in this age group who previously had access only to condoms from the local sexual health clinics. Although they will need parental consent to use the city-run health care clinic, the students will now be able to obtain prescriptions for birth control pills and other forms of contraception without their parents finding out. This comes after a request from the school's health center to make the pills available to children of high school age who were still attending middle school.
But many protest that these children are simply too young to have free access to such forms of birth control, and fear that this will lead children to think that having sex at such a young age is correct. But advocates of the decision say that they would rather give children these options than see a twelve year old become pregnant, citing the rising number of teenage mothers in the United States. Nationwide, one study showed more than 17,000 pregnancies for girls 14 or younger.
Besides, advocates contend, the children will receive extensive counseling before being given the prescription. The idea of making birth control pills available to that particular age group is not to promote promiscuity but to keep students safe, and in school. Many children who don't have a strong parental advocate at home need someone they can turn to and trust to answer questions regarding their sexuality at a time when they are constantly bombarded with sexually suggestive images.
In the end, whether one is for or against the scheme, it is important to strike an appropriate balance between addressing the growing problem of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases and upholding a moral standard for all students. People must recognize the significant role that parents and other family should play in educating children about sex and its consequences.
A Brief Overview Of Baby Acne
Saturday, April 28, 2012
Small babies may develop acne because of the lingering maternal hormones after delivery, which may cause stimulation to the baby's sebaceous glands. Your baby receives these hormones from the placenta, after the delivery.
Don't worry if your baby has pimples. About 20% of the newborn babies are affected by baby acne, also known as acne-neonatorum.
Let’ know the various aspects of this peculiar type of acne. First things first, the treatment for infantile acne is not the same as that of acne treatment for any other age group.
Infantile acne is gender-biased. Male babies are more affected than their female counterparts. Normally babies have the acne attack at the age of 3 weeks. Some babies have it from the time of delivery. Generally the types of acne you find in infants are papules and pustules. Papules are red bumps and pustules are whiteheads. They have a collection of pus.
Some babies also have acne on the scalp. Acne in babies does not require treatment as such. The lesions will take care of themselves within a period of four months. But do take the normal care of the baby as you would take care of its other body parts.
Use mild baby soap and gently clean the face once in a day with water. Do not try harsher methods by using oil and other lotions which you think are good. They may at times, worsen the condition. Know for certain that infantile acne will disappear when it has to.
In your anxiety to photograph the baby, don't stuff his/her cheeks with cosmetics and if at all you need to have the touch-ups, do it in an imaginative way.
If you or your family doctor feel that the baby has severe acne, treat it with benzoyl peroxide, keratolytic agents or topical creams like retinoids.
The ways of acne are indeed mysterious. If you have a family history of acne, that doesn't mean that your baby will have acne. And just because the baby has acne, it doesn't mean that, it will suffer from the attack of acne, when it grows up. Acne has its own working style and attacking strategy.
Infantile acne, which normally appears after the age of three months in a baby, quietly disappears after the age of 12 months. No special efforts of treatment are required. In some babies, the condition may last up to three years. It is due to the genetic makeup of your baby. You have something to contribute to it, as the hereditary part.
You have nothing to do with the infantile acne, relating to the treatment part. Just observe its arrival and departure. Well, arrival with anxiety and departure with pleasure!

A Bedtime Routine For Your Baby
As soon as possible, you should start a bedtime routine with your baby. You can start when the baby is six to eight weeks old, and your baby will surely reap benefits from the early routine setup. Establishing a stipulated system will make your baby appreciable of the consistent pattern. The baby will be comfortable knowing beforehand what is it follow next. This would facilitate better and faster sleep for your baby. Even without your presence in the house, make an attempt to maintain the routine of the baby. And when you try to settle down your baby in a new place, the routine will ease the baby.
Some tips that you can involve in organizing the routine of the baby are giving your baby a bath, helping him to get into pajamas, telling stories, or playing a game. Select activities that soothe the mind rather than those that excite the mind, because they would help your baby to fall asleep faster.
Keeping track of a baby by following a bedtime routine is beneficial to both the parents and the baby. At the fag end of the day, the routine gives an opportunity for the child and the parent to create a special bond between them. Following are a few ideas worth a try:
At times you should allow the baby to let his stored energy to escape before you settle him down. Two good ways to do so are bouncing in a bouncer or on a knee or having a ride on a horse. When the excitement is done with, change into an activity that is quieting and relaxing. Follow this only when your little one goes to sleep effortlessly during bedtime, or it might be too much excitement for him.
Bath is a bedtime routine that is calming. A warm bath cleans the baby and makes him relax. You can try an aromatherapy bath by putting some scented lavender oil into the warm water. But then again if you see that your baby cannot adjust with a bath at night and feels uncomfortable and cannot go to sleep, then it would be prudent to strike it out from the list of bedtime routines.
Indulging in some quiet playing games can bring some fun moments to the bedtime ritual, like a floor game, stacking blocks, or peek-a-boo.
One of the most famous bedtime routine that almost all parents do is reading stories to the baby at night. This ritual has many benefits – it introduces your baby to the new world where he would grow up to be through a huge vocabulary and is a step towards acquiring skills of language.
Singing is another idea. Sing a popular song and let the process grow into a tradition in your family. By and by your baby will understand that when the song ends its time for him to get some shut-eye.
On the way to the bed, bid good night to inanimate objects in the house like favorite toys and other items. You can also include pets and other family members – this way your baby will get acquainted with the various things in the house and would begin to understand and identify things by their names. Leave out no stuffed toy because they would be his childhood playmates for sometime.
A host of other activities could be included in your bedtime routine. Indulge yourself and the baby with the fun methods and let them be a great time for the two of you.

A Baby Shower Really Is A Time for Celebration For Everyone
Friday, April 27, 2012
Celebrating the upcoming arrival of a new baby is exciting but at the same time, it's often a situation in which both parents can feel much anxiety. These feelings of anxiety are especially strong for first-time parents. There is so much to know and so many different items are needed to provide proper infant care.
The idea of the baby shower came about as both a special time for family and friends to be together before the baby's arrival and also to help relieve the financial burden on parents-to-be by supplying them with many of the new gadgets, furnishings and accessories they'll need once their baby arrives.
And even though today most people prefer to break out of the 'traditional' mold, when it comes to a baby shower, these events for the most part still adhere to traditional guidelines. Probably one of the biggest changes to the baby shower format is that they're no longer exclusively for women. Plenty of men make it onto today's baby shower guest list and those who are invited don't come grudgingly. While they might not play in all the baby shower games, men do enjoy the opportunity to give their regards to the expectant mother- and father-to-be.
In some cultures however, a baby shower is considered a sign of bad luck. If there's a chance the expectant mother might feel this way, be sure to check with her before proceeding with the baby shower.
In some parts of the world the baby shower is actually held after the baby is born. This makes sense since a baby shower is a celebration of the baby and guests enjoy actually seeing the one who is being celebrated. It's also easier to select gender-appropriate colors and gifts and should the gift need engraving, guests have all the delivery details they need.
Having the baby shower after the baby's birth does make sense, but it's a very busy time for new parents. Plus, many of the baby items the expectant parent(s) need are needed as soon as the baby arrives home. That's why scheduling the baby shower before the baby's birth is the more common option.
The baby shower itself is traditional and for the most part, every shower involves the same activities. Guest lists and invitations need to be created and mailed. The shower location needs to be decorated. Guests expect to be entertained so food, drink and games need to be coordinated. And because it's a special occasion, there might even be a photographer and/or videographer, musician and other special talent participating in the festivities.
A baby shower can be a big to-do with lots of little details to coordinate and every detail is going to cost money. That's why it's highly advisable for whoever is hosting the shower to put together (and stick to) a workable budget.
Pulling off a successful special event like a baby shower doesn't take special talent, it takes a well-thought out plan that includes a timeline and a budget.

A Baby Footprint Makes A Great Baby Shower Invitation
If you are like many peo0le you can easily get stuck when it comes to the baby shower invitation. Finding the location, creating the guest lists and buying a cake can seem easy compared to picking the right invitation. The baby shower invitation will be the first impression that the guests will have of the event. It is therefore important to convey a message through the baby shower invitation. One really fun and very popular way to do this is use a baby footprint in the invitation. It is hard to resist the charm of a tiny little baby footprint. Baby shower invitations with a footprint are so irresistible be will just have to come to the shower.
So here are some creative ideas that you can use in creating your own baby shower footprint invitation.
1. Printed - A simple printed baby footprint can be a ton of fun. You can use a silhouette of a baby footprint to make the design. This will show the heel, toes and side of the foot. It will look as if a baby stepped in ink and then stamped the card with their feet. You can find clip art online by searching, use a stamp, use a real baby or even just freehand draw your own.
To put a little action into the baby shower footprint invitation you can make a series of footprints and make them decrease in size from large to smaller. This will give the illusion that the person leaving the prints is walking into the card. This is a great way to draw the attention of the viewer into the card and then place your important text information right above this.
2. Stamps - Stamping has become a very popular craft and is use widely among printers and crafters in the business of making invitations. You can easily purchase baby footprint stamps of varying sizes from your local craft store or on the Internet. These can make a fun and fancy decoration to the invitation. There are so many things you can do by varying the colors, size of the stamp and the paper the possibilities are really endless.
For example pick a cute pink (for girls) or a blue (for boys) ink pad and stamp a tiny border made up of footprints all around the invitation. Don’t worry to much about making them all straight or in line just have fun and stamp at random. This will give the invitation a light fun feeling.
As an alternative you can purchase a large stamp and simply stamp a big filled in silhouetted image smack dab in the middle of the invitation. Then you can creatively with fun colored pens write all around the footprint following the outline of it. This makes another fun creative and even whimsical invitation.
3. Embossing - This is where the baby footprint is raised from the page. There are two types of embossing. The first is by using a professional printer and paying to have the cards done. A printer can actually emboss the paper and have a raised footprint right in the paper. A baby footprint embossed onto a beautifully textured pure white piece of paper can look very elegant!
If you are the do it yourself type it is very easy to purchase an embossing powder in stamping or craft store. These come in all kinds of fun colors but often gold or silver embossing powder can look very elegant! With embossing powder you will need a stamp and some ink. You start by stamping the invitation with the baby footprint stamp first. Then before the ink dries you poor some of the embossing powder on the stamped area. The embossing powder will stick tot he wet ink. You can then hold the piece of paper over a light bulb or use an embossing gun to heat the powder. Once it gets hot it will melt and adhere to the paper. This makes a fun and easy way to have a very elegant gold embossed baby footprint shower invitation.
4. Cut Out - With this technique you will want to find some stiff paper. Then you will pencil in an outline of a baby footprint and cut it out. You can also make a simple stencil suing a file folder and then quickly trace around the stencil and cut out to speed up the process and make the results more uniform. Then on the baby of the cut out footprint you can write all of your important baby shower details. Where it will take place, RSVP information and so forth.
Either way that you choose the important thing to remember is to have fun in creating the baby shower invitation footprint. Get some friends to help you if you plan on making your own invitations as this will speed up the entire process. It can also be more fun with a group of girlfriends around a table talking and having a good time then cutting 25 baby shower footprint invitations all by yourself.
As an addition to the fun, baby shower footprint invitation, it can be lots of fun to continue with the footprint theme in decorating for the part. You can use the same stamps and decorations that you used on the invitation in other places to decorate for the shower.

Appropriate Gifts For A Baby Shower
Thursday, April 26, 2012
Celebrating the upcoming birth of a child by arranging a baby shower has become more and more popular. What better way to celebrate the arrival of a new little person to the world, than to have a nice little party for close friends and family.
It is customary to bring the new parents and their baby some gifts on this joyous occasion, and in this article we will look at some appropriate the gifts that will prove truly useful.
When buying gifts for a child, toys are usually the first thing that springs to mind. However, there are also many other items that are suitable. Also, remember that baby shower gifts need not only be for the baby. It is equally thoughtful to get something for the parents to be.
Buying toys
If you have decided to purchase a toy, or at least something playful, consider buying something that is educational and will boost the baby's brainpower. There is a rich selection of classic baby books and educational cd's and DVD's to choose from. For example, the Brainy Baby and Baby Einstein DVDs are highly recommended. And a visit to the local bookstore will surely provide you with many great alternatives. You may even find that some of the favourites from your own childhood are still available in reprinted edition, as well as books from many new authors. Choose books with many bright and bold pictures in them.
As for actual toys, there are many entertaining alternatives available. If you find something you like, you can certainly buy a toy for older babies that the baby can use when it grows a bit older. But just to be safe, stick to the toys for kids aged 3 and under.
Practical gifts for baby and parents
Some people are under the impression that a gift can't be something "useful and boring". However, while something like disposable diapers may not be the most fancy gift to give for a baby shower, it would definitely be a most thoughtful gift and most appreciated.
Diapers are expensive and babies will use them up very quickly. The new parents will appreciate them. Even those parents who opt to use cloth diapers may also find disposable diapers useful when travelling. A tip when buying diapers, pick the larger size ones instead of newborn diapers. After all, babies nowadays grow very fast and the newborn-size diapers may not be useful for very long. And while you are at it, why not thrown in some baby wipes as well.
Since hygiene is so important for little infants, a nice selection of baby bathroom essentials would also make a very thoughtful present. This does not have to be "boring" at all, as there are many things like cute baby puppets that may also double as scrubbing tools, or bubble bath with a soothing lavender scent will make bath time an entertaining experience for both the baby and parents. A hooded towel and some sweet smelling baby cologne or lotion is also suitable bath time goodies gifts.
Other usable items are pacifiers and bottles. However you should be aware that some babies prefer to use only a particular brand or shape for these items. If the parents-to-be have specified in the baby registry a brand or shape of bottles, nipples, and pacifiers, these items may be a safe choice for a baby shower gift. Otherwise, just steer clear from these baby items.
Finally, clothes is something that every baby needs - and will grow out of quickly. For this reason it may be a good idea to choose somewhat larger sizes than newborn sizes. Knowing the season the baby will arrive, and if at all possible the baby's gender, is also most helpful in choosing the clothes that will be just right.
If you, in spite of all these ideas and suggestions, can't come up with anything that you think would make an appropriate gift, a last resort could be to simply give the new parents a gift certificate for buying what they want themselves.
Overall, it is also a good idea to speak with some of the other guests of the baby shower well before the event takes place. You wouldn't want EVERYONE to bring disposable diapers, would you?
An Introduction to Baby Car Seats
Becoming a parent for the first time involves a huge amount of learning, as there are hundreds of things involved which childless people will have had no reason to come across before, nor had any incentive to learn about. When you first learn of the impending new arrival, your thoughts will probably be taken up with decorating and equipping a nursery, buying clothes, bottles, and much more, but many people don't think of a baby car seat until later on in the pregnancy. It's very important to make sure you know what to look for in a seat, as after all, you'll need one on your baby's very first journey, from the hospital back to home.
For this first journey, you'll need a seat which faces towards the rear of your vehicle. This provides the best protection in the event of an impact for an infant who is unable yet to support the weight of their own head. The seat will be nicely reclined backwards, providing a safe and comfortable coccoon for your baby.
It's important to choose a rear-facing seat which is sturdy and dependable, yet light to carry. Young babies sleep a little and often, and the last thing you want to do after finally getting your child to sleep in a car journey is to wake them by removing them from their warm and cosy seat. Having an easily detachable model which is light to carry means you can ferry your baby from car to house with as little disturbance as possible.
These rear facing seats are only suitable for younger infants. Once they've grown to weigh around 20 pounds, or the top of their head is nearing the upper edge of the seat and thus no longer protected properly, you'll need to move to a forward facing seat.
These seats are much more upright, but better models can be adjusted to provide a more horizontal position to help your toddler sleep during longer journeys. Because of the upright position, it's essential that your child is able to sit up on their own before using this kind of seat. Forward facing seats are built to last for a fair few years, and most will be good until your child reaches the age of 4 or 6.
Before we finish, there are two extremely important things to bear in mind when buying a car seat.
Firstly, you should be very careful when buying one that isn't brand new. Although it might seem like an economy to get a second hand seat, there's no way of knowing for sure its history. It may have been involved in an accident at some point in the past, resulting in weaknessess that may not be visible to the naked eye. These weaknesses could endanger your baby even in a minor accident. You should only buy a used seat when you can be absolutely sure of the history - such as when buying off close friends or family.
Finally, baby car seats shouldn't be fitted in front seats where an airbag is fitted. In an accident, the inflation of the airbag could cause serious injury or suffocation to a child, so always fit car seats in the rear of the vehicle in this case.
Anti-Aging Tips for Baby Boomers in Retirement
Many baby boomers in retirement are becoming more and more concerned with their health needs. Aging has become a reality, so they must take steps to improve or maintain good health and slow the aging process.
According to a recent study by Herbal News Magazine, baby boomers born between 1948 and 1953 evaluated their general health more poorly than their elders, based on a similar study conducted in 1992. Perhaps this happened because the Baby Boom generation was generally less physically active than their elders had been, both at home and at work. Less physical activity and poor eating habits have led to many cases of diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure among baby boomers in retirement.
Fortunately, it's not too late for baby boomers to become pro-active in their own physical well-being. These anti-aging and health tips can help.
Use Herbs to Supplement Diet
Herbs have been around since the earth's beginnings and can often be found in seasoning and spices we use, plants, many organic foods, and herbal supplements. With the onslaught of pharmaceutical companies and modern medicine, herb use for anti-aging and good health dwindled for a while. But now, baby boomers are realizing the many benefits of holistic health and that herbs offer an affordable alternative to many prescription or over-the-counter drugs.
Some popular herbs for enhanced health and anti-aging include oregano, alfalfa, wheat germ, Echinacea root, fenugreek, arginine, witch hazel, cinnamon, cardamom, dill, peppermint, thyme, ginseng, ginger, rosemary, black pepper, green tea, cat's claw, and many others. Ginger, for instance, is an antioxidant that helps cleanse the colon, stimulate circulation, and reduce spasms and cramps. It also helps reduce hot flashes and indigestion. Alfalfa detoxifies the body and works as a natural diuretic, hormonal balancer, and cholesterol reducer. Cinnamon enhances the metabolism to help with weight loss, and it is recommended for fungal infections, digestive problems, diabetes, yeast infection, and other ailments. The list of herbs available today goes on and on.
Baby boomers in retirement can see a holistic doctor or one that specializes in homeopathy to discover herbs or alternative medicines that will work best for them.
Natural Healing
Another way baby boomers can improve health and prolong the aging process is through natural methods and remedies for healing. The "ancients" often turned to natural remedies for healing because they didn't have a doctor's office or local hospital nearby. Today, many people turn to drugs, which only treat the symptoms, not the problem. Though some diseases and sicknesses do require pharmaceutical drugs, there are many conditions that could possibly be healed naturally. Natural healing is available for many ailments including colds and congestion, back or neck pain, stress and tension, headaches, circulatory problems, and others.
There are several natural healing methods. Acupuncture is a Chinese therapy in which fine needles are used to unblock energy in the body so the healing process can take place naturally. Chiropractic methods include re-aligning or adjusting skeletal systems in the body to help the body release blockages and heal itself. Cranial sacral is the process of adjusting or aligning the bones of the skull to help with headaches, chronic pain, joint syndrome, or injuries to the head or spine. Massaging is a natural healing method in which the hands are used to gently release stress and tension through motion and pressure on certain muscles. Other natural healing methods include Rolfing, Shiatsu, reflexology, and the healing touch.
Choose All-Natural Beauty Products over Chemically-Based Products
Chemically-based beauty products might work wonders at enhancing beauty for now, but long-term use can actually speed up the aging process. Some products that promise beauty might actually dry or damage the skin, damage hair, and cause pre-mature wrinkles. Luckily, there are many organic beauty products available in lotions, shampoos, make-up, bath oils, and soaps to help skin stay beautiful and to reduce signs of aging. These are made of natural ingredients instead of dangerous toxins that can be absorbed into the body through the skin.
Physical Activity, Healthy Eating, and Relaxation
Three other key factors to good health for baby boomers are physical activity, healthy eating, and relaxation. Baby boomers in retirement can still be active doing the things they love such as walking or jogging, riding a bike, gardening, traveling and sight-seeing. Also, they can eat healthier by choosing foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals. Finding a way to relax each day is also important for good health. A soothing bath in natural bath oil, reading a book, spending time outdoors on a swing... all these offer time to relax and clear the mind of the day's stressful activities.
These methods have helped many people, but a doctor should be seen with any serious illness. Herbs and alternative medicines are not automatic cure-alls, but are meant to enhance health and help the body heal itself of minor illnesses.
Baby boomers in retirement don't have to stand by and watch their health go downhill. The Internet is a great resource to get started and research different herbs and their health benefits. It's time to take action with these natural health and antiaging tips!

Adoption of babies by celebrities is the epicenter of controversies and brings special coverage in print media.
The UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador and Hollywood actor Angelina Julie has been trying to adopt babies in several countries though she biologically owns one and is reported to be expecting another. Controversies are part and parcel of these initiatives that intend to help the underprivileged families finding sponsors for their kids.
Despite issues faced by the Oscar winning star of the action movie Tomb Raider and her boyfriend Brad Pitt, the glamorous couple on the earth is set to opt for more adoption across the world. They have already adopted two children – Maddox, a five-year old and Zahara, a 22-month old, and are looking at adopting one in India, though their plans are yet to take shape.
Do the adopted babies add value to their already swelling kitty? Future might have an answer for this though these kids will be brought under different geographies and culture. Their adorable baby Shiloh has already brought more fame for their family and attracted millions after the Hollywood couple sold the first public photographs to magazines and then donated the proceeds to charity. Besides Shiloh, the two adopted babies are also getting substantial media attention.
Following the adoption of Zahara from Ethiopia, a number of women had claimed Zahara’s motherhood giving a fresh phase to the adoption-related controversies. The controversy ended after an Ethiopian judge ruled that the woman who claimed to be her mother is not the biological mother.
Besides babies, Julie is keen to support humanitarian causes throughout the world visiting several countries, and is well known for her work with refugees through UNHCR. As the Goodwill Ambassador, Julie’s main focuss is on field missions. As part of the field missions, Julie visited refugees and internally displaced persons during her first three years as the Goodwill Ambassador.
Julie was subjected to criticism by the pop diva Madonna for using the former’s fame to assist the UN. According to the pop singer, she has done more good to the world by adopting the underprivileged.
In contrary to Madonna’s allegations, Julie was not just visiting refugee camps, but she also published Notes from My Travels, a collection of journal entries that chronicle her early field missions in 2001-2002 alongwith the release of one of her movies. The proceeds from the book sale was used to support the UNHCR initiatives. As part of her humanitarian work, Julie was already associated with several social issues by funding a number of projects and visited places like Thailand, Ecuador, Kosovo, Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Sri Lanka, Russia, North Caucasus, etc.
Julie’s celebrity status is making headlines everyday. She used her celebrity power to highlight humanitarian issues globally and get support from others. For instance, she promoted World Refugee Day 2006 in a two-hour interview with Anderson Cooper in CNN, and this program attracted more than double the audience of his typical newscast.

Amazing Baby Shower Ideas: Shower Planning Tips And Advice
The arrival of a newborn family member is one of the most exciting times in a parents life. They would usually spend each waking hour counting the ticks of the clock, the droplets that tap on the window pane, and the days in the calendar just to confirm how many days are still left before the baby’s due arrival.
In order to lessen the anticipation of the parents, having a baby shower is one of the most feasible ways to cut back the long-wait.
A baby shower is actually one type of party wherein money or gifts are given to the expectant mother in lieu of the baby’s arrival. The relatives or friends of the parents are the ones who usually organize the party.
It has not been founded in any historical events and is slowly taking recognition in the United States and in countries where the way of life in the U.S. are incorporated.
The basic purpose of organizing baby showers is to help the parents manage and organize the items needed for the baby’s due arrival. It is also one way of celebrating the joy and excitement of having a new member in the family — the baby.
Hence, it is important for the organizers to come up with ideas or themes that they think would best suit the mother’s personality or the tone of the occasion. All You Wanted To Know About Baby Highchairs
If your baby is already of six months age then having a high baby high chair is very important for you. There are many types of chairs available in the market and some of them even recline. You may choose a chair which is specially made for small babies who haven’t yet learnt to sit but they may not be very useful if the child is not able to sit at least.
Highchairs for the child have more than sufficient features for the child and the parents; you will really be not using all of them. The seats are padded and they are very comfortable for the child. The wheels on the chairs make it very convenient for you to move the chair everywhere. Nowadays, you even get chairs whose height can be adjusted according to the child’s growth. Thus the child is always at the same height of the table in spite of having grown up. Even the footrest available is adjustable. The highchairs which are available nowadays can be folded away. You can convert the high chair into a play table also. There is an insert in the chair which can fit over the chairs tray, so that your child gets enough space to play. Some of the models have very big feeding trays whereas others have a bottle or cup set in the tray.
The highchair’s base is stable and broad. This doesn’t allow the chair to trip over, even if the baby leans over its side. Actually it is a good idea not to encourage the child to move about while sitting.
There are many types of highchairs. They may be made of wood or plastic or metal. Wood chairs are generally not adjustable.
You should however take the precaution of not leaving the child alone even for a short while; not even to go and answer the telephone, or get a bib or get some food. The baby in the chair must never be left alone. Accidents happen suddenly and unexpectedly. You must gather everything before putting the baby in the chair.
The baby must always be strapped to the chair. The child may slip from under the feeding tray and get hurt seriously. The older ones may slip and get stuck under the tray.
If you have a folding variety of high chair then in your haste you must not forget to lock it in that position. If the highchair happens to fold back, the baby can be hurt badly. Thus you must check the chair at regular intervals to rule out any defects.
When you are setting the tray for feeding the baby, just keep an eye on the baby’s fingers. They may get a cut or get hurt. You must also be sure that the lock is well set. Tug it a little and ensure it. If it is not tight enough or is not set properly the baby may fall down and hurt him.

All About: Diaper Bags
Tuesday, April 24, 2012
A diaper bag, as the name suggests is quite obviously a bag that stores diapers. However, most have enough space for a wide range of baby accessories and have proved to be a wonderful solution for busy parents. A diaper bag stores diapers, toys, medicines, pacifiers, snacks and anything else you might need to keep baby comfortable and happy. As a matter of fact, diaper bags are as important as a diaper -- an equally indispensable part of a baby's growing up years.
Over the years, diaper bags have evolved immensely and are now custom-made in a variety of styles and colors to compliment mom and baby on their day out. Created primarily for convenience, some modern bags are a superb blend of logic and design, proving to be extremely functional as well as fashionable.
Traditionally, diaper bags were bulky carry-alls, made out of plastic(meant to be leak-proof) with one huge pocket and several smaller ones. They looked outdated and highly unattractive. Now, you may come across bags made out of micro fiber with plenty of pockets. There are others made of a combination of tweed and leather.
When buying a diaper bag, remember that the most essential convenience the bag should have is space for a variety of products beyond diapers.
Also keep in mind that prices for diaper bags start low and can go high(particularly if you choose a designer bag). Another thing to keep in mind would be the budget. Parents should opt for bags that suit their lifestyle and those of their children the best.
Diaper bags, as we can see, diaper bags are extremely important for a baby. They contribute to the baby's mobility and also provide ready relief for parents who dread excess baggage while traveling with their babies.
